The Centro El Tucán, Achiote

You will be very welcome at the Centro El Tucán, where you will find two dorm rooms, an office and large meeting room, a kitchen and eating areas, a garden with trails and a beautiful wooden look out deck, a library with books on birds and plants, and lots of local maps. CEASPA built the Community Learning and Visitors Center El Tucán in Achiote, Colon, in 2004, with the support of the US Fish and Wildlife Service, USFWS, as part of a project to make Achiote a bird and birder-friendly community. The vision of the Center is to be a Training Center for human development and environmental education, recognized by its innovative methods and partipatory discovery, for members of the community and for others; and that it respond to people´s needs and supports harmonious interaction between people and nature.

Our mission is to support programs developed by the communities themselves, with environmental education and human development action, through training and resource management for environmental management and quality of life; and that we become a place for meetings and exchanges, using active, inclusive and fun methods, that are supported by academics and students, scientists, NGOs, firms, bird watchers, tourists and former residents of the Canal Zone.
